THE REAL STORY OF WHO THE CONTRACEPTION MANDATE HURTS: THE POOR!
There continues to be a divided America over a critical contraception mandate issued by the HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius under the PPACA otherwise and more commonly referred to as Obamacare.
The Catholic Church and some Evangelical Churches have joined forces and filed a lawsuit against the federal government alleging that the mandate violates the First Amendment’s freedom of Religion, by forcing Churches and other religious institutions to have contraception coverage for all their employees.
The ultimate crisis will come if the Catholic Church looses the lawsuit because they WILL NOT violate their conscience by allowing the coverage to be forced upon them. Instead, they will shut down their charities, colleges and any other institutions that would be strong armed by the government over this issue. The other possibility is that we’ll see IRS agents storming Catholic Charity organizations who didn’t comply and forcing them to shut down for violating the law. You don’t think they’ll do it?
Need I remind you of the federal government’s raid on Gibson Guitars for properly importing a rare form of wood from Madagascar, to make their world famous guitars? Eventually, they relented, and settled for fear of even more punishment from the feds.
And maybe you don’t think that the Catholic Church will abandon all of its charities over birth control! Well, in February, Francis Cardinal George, archbishop in President Obama’s home town of Chicago warned unequivocally that the Catholic Church will shut down its hospitals, clinics, and charities before submitting to the mandate.
He went on to remind parishioners in a letter:
So far in American history, our government has respected the freedom of individual conscience and of institutional integrity for all the many religious groups that shape our society. The government has not compelled them to perform or pay for what their faith tells them is immoral. That’s what we’ve meant by freedom of religion. That’s what we had believed was protected by the U.S. Constitution. Maybe we were foolish to believe so.
So, what would America look like if the Catholic Churches shut down all of their hospitals, colleges, food pantries and other charities? It would hurt the very people that Democrats and President Obama claim to be advocates for take a look at this case study conducted by Catholic Charities in DC.
According to the Catholic Health Association; 1 in every six patients is treated at a Catholic hospital. That’s 15% of all the patients in the United States and if those hospitals weren’t opened the strain put on other medical facilities in certain areas would be insurmountable. Just think about this for a moment; Catholic hospitals admitted 5.5 million people into their 628 hospitals around the country. It seems to me that without these hospitals we are exacerbating an already complicated problem.
To add to the problem Catholic hospitals employ over 640,000 employees who would all lose their jobs and a loss of nearly $100 Billion would further diminishing the economic outlook in America. You’d think that this administration, which is already having complications trying to deal with unemployment, would be concerned about losing so many jobs, but this past week President Obama doubled down on the contraception mandate saying according to Lifenews.com:
“Let me tell you—there’s nothing conservative about a government that prevents a woman from making her own health decisions,” he said. Let me tell you something, Denver—I don’t think your boss should control the care you get,” taking a clear jab at religious employers who’ve sued the administration.
Here’s where you have to peel back the layers of the onion so to speak. When Mr. Obama says that he doesn’t think “that your boss should control the care you get”, could that be because he has openly denounced employer sponsored healthcare and is a proponent of universal healthcare? He doesn’t want your boss to control your care; he wants the government to control it!
At an SEIU event, as Senator Obama, he states very clearly that he intends to implement a universal healthcare system within 6 years of becoming President and using that timeline allow me to explain how he could achieve it under Obamacare.
You see, this has nothing to do with Catholics and everything to do with ideology; it never made sense for President Obama to openly target one of his loyal constituents. The Catholic Church has largely supported this President and the idea of a universal healthcare system, so this seems like political suicide.
But if you look beyond the politics and look through the eyes of ideology Mr. Obama wants, believes in and has stated he’d do whatever it takes to implement a universal healthcare system and here’s how he’ll keep his promise.
By irritating the Catholic Churches he aims to force them to drop healthcare coverage for their employees and force them into the insurance exchanges. Couple that with the overwhelming incentive for everyday employers to save money by paying the “penalty” now dishonorably deemed a “tax” and force their employees to purchase healthcare through the exchanges.
It’s relatively simple from there, once they’ve pushed the majority of Americans into the insurance exchanges; they can simply mandate through HHS, that insurers within the exchanges cover more of the claims while also putting in place price controls on premium increases, immediately forcing the smaller carriers out. Once they get it down to one or two companies they could simply mandate how much insurers are allowed to pay out to doctors and hospitals forcing them to stop taking insurance. Plus they could further increase pricing controls which creates the next crisis in the healthcare system; and they’ll do it all while blaming it on the insurance companies, who’ve foolishly gotten into bed with this administration.
Once you understand what’s driving this administration, then it’s easy to see what they’re doing to our healthcare and to America!
